International Day of People with Disability, December 3, 2021

Disability inclusion is the recognition that everybody has the same opportunities to participate in every aspect of life to the best of their abilities. Every year on December 3rd, International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is celebrated worldwide. It is an opportunity to increase awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability. It is also a day to celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disability within the local community.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made a big impact on people with disability and has furthered their isolation. It is important to recognize the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of the people you support and your networks. IDPwD is a reminder to celebrate the challenges, resilience, and achievements of people with disability.

How can you celebrate the day?

Story telling is a powerful way to communicate the human experience and to raise your voice and share awareness. People with disability are often unheard and a great way to increase capacity and inclusion is to share stories.
